About a minute for a normal hotel room. Switch on the red light, look through the filter, and sweep slowly across mirrors, vents, smoke detectors and anything facing the bed.

Two ways. The red light plus optical filter makes camera lenses reflect back as a bright red dot. Separately, it picks up infrared emitters, so a camera running night vision in a dark room triggers an alert.

USB-C, same cable as most phones. A full charge gives up to 720 hours of use and 30 days on standby.

Small enough to actually carry
Fits in a jacket pocket, charges with the same cable as my phone, and the flashlight got more use than expected checking behind vents. Battery's lasted weeks of on-and-off use.

Solid, not magic
Does what it says — finds reflections and picks up infrared. Just know it needs a dark room and a slow sweep. Rush it and you'll miss things. Not a one-second gadget.

Scanning is easy once you get it. Everything runs off one button with long and short presses though, so keep the card in the case for the first week.

Set up my own camera at home first to see if it would catch it. It did, clearly. Door alarm is useful but sensitive enough that it caught me walking back in.
